Moonlight Love
“I want you to walk with me to the car,” he said as he made the effort to stay on his feet and tell everyone else to leave him alone. Although she knew he was far from sober, she could somehow feel that part of everything he did and said was honest – the most honest he’d been to date.
The night was beautiful, a breathtaking full moon and a cool breeze filled the space around them. She’d wanted something like this to happen for months and the moment was finally there even if it wasn’t exactly as she imagined it. She helped him as they continued along the sandy road since he wasn’t really steady and they barely spoke to each other as they walked. He kept telling her how he cared for her, how he saw her as almost an angel, how much he wanted to be with her…but because of other circumstances that couldn’t be possible. Her heart skipped more beats in those moments than it probably ever did.
Suddenly, they came to a stop. All the thoughts, hopes and feelings that were shooting in her head stopped. All the nervousness and butterflies ceased. All the doubts she had disappeared. And then it finally happened.
“May I kiss you?” he asked as he carefully grabbed her hand. At that precise moment, under that full moon, she knew she loved him and things would never be the same. And he didn’t just hold her hand, he held her heart and she didn’t want it any other way. He could keep it forever…
